Dot In Japan: 8th Yokohama Triennale

To understand the artistic language of contemporary Japan, I visited the 8th Yokohama Triennale. I particularly enjoyed the activities of the Inter-Asia Woodcut Mapping Group, a research and collective creative group. Through this, I was able to examine the flow and history of exchange within Asia through woodcuts. Furthermore, I attended and discussed a lecture by Carol Yinghua Lu (Co-Artistic Director of the 8th Yokohama Triennale), who participated in the 7th Changwon Sculpture Biennale’s “Silent Apple” which brought home the importance of exchange and expansion in Asian art.

현대 일본의 미술 언어를 이해하고자 제8회 요코하마 트리엔날레를 방문하였다. 그 중 특별히 연구 및 집단 창작을 지향하는 인터 아시아 우드컷 매핑 그룹(Inter-Asia Woodcut Mapping Group)의 활동을 흥미롭게 보았으며, 이를 통해 목판화를 통한 아시아 내 교류 흐름과 역사를 살펴볼 수 있었다. 나아가, 제7회 창원조각비엔날레 《큰 사과가 소리없이》에 참여한 캐롤 잉화 루(Carol Yinghua Lu, 제8회 요코하마 트리엔날 레 공동 예술감독)의 강연에 참석하고 얘기를 나눔으로써 아시아 미술의 교류와 확장의 중요성을 인식했다.
