Seminar: Exhibiting Without Mediation of Artworks

AS had the privilege of participating in the seminar ‘Exhibiting Without Mediation of Artworks‘ as part of the 2024 Doosan Curatorial Workshop. During the seminar, AS shared insights on the activities following the planning phase of the research-based exhibition ‘Mistranslating Southeast Asia: The Seven Holes’ and engaged in a thoughtful discussion with the participating curators. The conversation focused on the agendas and practices employed by curators and critics in the 1960s and 1970s to present conceptual art in the West, as well as the ongoing practice of archival exhibitions in institutions, including biennials. AS also presented the findings from previous research projects to help clarify the idea that both curators and audiences may be considered ‘outside’ the context of Southeast Asian artworks.

2024 두산 큐레이터 워크숍을 구성하는 세미나 “예술 작품을 경유하지 않고 전시하기”에 참여했습니다. AS는 리서치 기반의 전시였던 《남동아시아 오역하기: 7개의 구멍》 기획단계 이후의 활동을 소개하는 동시에, 참여 큐레이터분들과 서구에서 개념미술 전시를 위해 1960-1970년대 기획자와 비평가들이 활용한 의제 및 사례, 비엔날레를 포함한 기관에서 지속되고 있는 아카이브 전시 형태를 참고한 논의를 나누었습니다. 또한 AS의 지난 기획에는 전시의 관람자와 기획자 모두가 남동아시아 미술 작품의 ‘바깥’에 있다는 점을 더 명확하게 보여주는 방편으로서 리서치 결과물을 제시했다는 점을 제시하는 시간을 가졌습니다.
